QLess Helping Colleges Eliminate Lines

Valdosta State University Latest Higher-Education Institution to Eliminate Lines by Deploying Revolutionary Line-Management Software

PASADENA, Calif. — Aug. 5, 2015 — QLess today announced that its line-management solutions are now being used by the Valdosta State University (VSU) to eliminate lines and reduce wait times for students. QLess, which helps organizations of all sizes render lines obsolete with an easy-to-use app, is now used by schools all over the world, including the Santa Monica College, the University of Texas at Dallas, Collin College, and the University of Melbourne.

“Education is a seasonal business with demand peaks that cause long waits for enrollment and financial aid,” says QLess CEO Alex Backer. “It’s a terrible experience for students, and I’m proud that our software is being used by so many universities to eliminate this huge waste of time so that students and staff can be more efficient and productive. There is absolutely no need for students – or anyone else, for that matter – to ever wait in line again.” Backer notes that in the higher education sector, reports show that universities encounter a 50% walk-out rate where the wait in line is an hour or longer. “By instituting QLess, universities have cut their walk-out rate in half and strongly increased student satisfaction by letting them do other things with their time other than standing around.”

The line problem isn’t just annoying – it’s a serious drain on productivity. Richard Lawson, a professor at MIT who has studied the topic, wrote that the average American has been estimated to spend two years of their life waiting in line, and Alex Stone reported in the New York Times that, “Americans spend roughly 37 billion hours each year waiting in line.”

With the 2015-2016 academic year commencing in the coming weeks, the timing couldn’t be better for QLess. Many academic institutions already experience the myriad benefits of rolling-out an orderly process that eliminates congestion and chaos. “I am excited about the potential for this amazing tool to reduce the stress level for both students and staff, alike,” says Julian Vickers, Operations Manager for Processing in the Office of Financial Aid at VSU. “I was asked to figure out how to manage waiting issues and agreed we needed help, having already experienced our ‘crazy time’ here.”

On the other side of the world, Linda Jackson, Manager of the Arts Student Centre at the University of Melbourne, is already enjoying the benefits of QLess. “The staff and students absolutely love it. There is so much interest in the system, I can’t believe it.”

As the only appointment platform integrated with walk-in traffic, QLess solves the line problem through a real-time dynamic solution that turns physical lines into virtual ones. With QLess, college students are able to join a virtual queue via the web, through an in-office kiosk, or with their cell phones. QLess provides students with text updates on where they are in line and predictive wait times so they only need to be in the office when they are summoned.
