Here's an Example of How it Works:

Tom stops by his local supermarket on the way home from work. As he enters the store, he notices a sign that reads, "To avoid waiting in a check-out line during your visit today, use your cell phone to dial 555-123-4567, and key in 'MARKET' when prompted."

Tom is intrigued, so he calls. QLess answers, asks Tom to enter a queue code, and then queries how long he'd like to shop. Tom estimates that this shopping trip will take roughly 30 minutes and informs QLess, which then tells Tom that it will contact him 5 minutes prior to the end of his shopping session to confirm that he's ready to check out, and then ends the call.

Tom grabs a cart and starts shopping. 30 minutes later, QLess calls Tom's cell phone and suggests that he either head toward the check-out area or request more time. Tom decides he'd like to shop for a book to read, so he asks QLess to give him another 15 minutes. QLess acknowledges the request, moves Tom back in line, and adjusts the wait list accordingly.

10 minutes later, QLess calls Tom's cell phone to inform him that his wait-time is again down to 5 minutes. Tom has found a book, so he confirms with QLess his intention to proceed to check-out. QLess informs Tom to look for signs indicating special lanes reserved for QLess users. Tom heads to the check-out area, sees the signs, and presents the QLess checker with his "ticket" (Tom's cell phone number). The checker totals up Tom's purchases and sends him on his way, while QLess adjusts the check-out wait list accordingly.
